Tukums History Museum is located in the town’s oldest stone building, which is known as the Castle Tower and is part of the Livonian Order castle, which was repeatedly destroyed and restored. The tower used to serve as a prison and storage, but since 1995 it has housed the museum dedicated to the history of the town and its citizens.
Exhibitions and educational programmes deal with the town’s history and its modern-day processes. Depending on the topic, exhibitions are created by different groups of citizens (firefighters, car racers, medical workers, pupils, etc.). The resulting interactive exhibitions are usually opened during the town’s biggest celebration in July.
