The summerhouse was designed and built by Kārlis Skalbe. The family spent 18 summers here (1926-1944). The museum retains the interiors from the Skalbes lifetime. Every season new exhibitions are offered in the small loft.

In close proximity to his native “Incēni”, Kārlis Skalbe found respite from the anxieties of life in Rīga and drew inspiration for his writing. The poet rested his soul in the harmony of lakes, forests and hills that were known and dear to him since childhood.

The publicly accessible museum complex includes Skalbe’s ancestral home, “Incēni”, the fairy tale trail “Step into a Fairy Tale!”, the bathhouse exhibit and the Skalbe family grave with an unforgettable view of Lake Alauksts. Visitors can avail themselves of the museum car park and an outdoor playground for children.
